Mississippi's Institutions of Higher Learning

Mississippi’s Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) is the public university system governed by the state’s Board of Trustees. It brings together eight distinct, mission-driven universities and works to meet the diverse educational needs of people across Mississippi. The system’s mission emphasizes student achievement, responsible citizenship, high academic standards, and quality in instruction, research, service, and facilities. It also commits to affordability, accessibility, and accountability.

IHL supports and coordinates a broad range of higher education activities and resources. Its work includes academic affairs, admissions standards, college preparatory guidance, tuition and meal-plan information, dual enrollment, transfer pathways, accreditation, nursing education, and student and parent resources. The organization also provides data and reports, financial and procurement information, research and economic development resources, and information about university facilities and real estate. Through public updates, board meeting materials, policies, and public records services, IHL shares information about its governance and operations. Its resources connect students, families, universities, and communities with information about Mississippi’s public higher education system.
