About Carousel Missoula
A Carousel for Missoula is a nonprofit community attraction in Caras Park, in downtown Missoula, Montana. Built through a citywide effort involving neighbors, artists, woodcarvers and volunteers, it is one of the first fully hand-carved carousels constructed in the United States since the Great Depression. Its ponies, dragons, chariots and other details reflect the craftsmanship and community spirit behind the project. Today, the carousel’s Ponykeepers continue that tradition by carving, painting, restoring and caring for its features by hand.
Open seven days a week, the carousel welcomes children and adults for rides and offers a setting for family outings, celebrations, first dates, field trips and community traditions. Visitors can enjoy rides on the hand-carved animals and dragon, with each visit helping support the nonprofit’s work to preserve this local landmark. The organization also offers birthday party packages and private rentals year-round, with staff available to help plan events. Donations, ride-token purchases and visits all contribute to maintaining the carousel for future generations.
