The Missouri Gravestone Photo Project is a privately sponsored, non-commercial nonprofit educational initiative dedicated to preserving the memory of ancestors and safeguarding cemetery history. It creates a lasting digital record of gravestone inscriptions, which can become difficult or impossible to read as stones weather and age. The project offers a free resource for family history researchers and the public, with a searchable collection of gravestone photographs and cemetery burial information across Missouri.

Visitors can search by name or location, browse cemeteries and surnames, and explore resources about the project. Individuals are invited to submit photographs and volunteer to document gravestones throughout Missouri’s counties. The initiative also works to record GPS coordinates for cemeteries and individual gravestones when available, helping users locate memorials. Its veteran memorials recognize Missouri veterans, with a dedicated searchable database currently being reorganized. The collection is built through the efforts of volunteers and contributors who share photographs for archival preservation and public access, helping make local and family history more accessible.
