MIST is privacy infrastructure for digital payments, designed to let payment providers and other partners define and enforce their own screening and compliance rules. Its system separates private payment records, partner controls, and asset custody: the Chamber tracks private balances, Middleware applies business rules, and each Reserve holds funds under a distinct policy. Funds governed by different policies remain separate.

MIST enables private transfers and withdrawals, with checks for authorization, funding, and transaction balance performed without publishing underlying payment details on a public ledger. Partners can set requirements such as KYC status, jurisdiction, transaction limits, approvals, and release conditions. When needed, authorized reviewers can receive evidence for a specific payment without unrestricted access to customer records or the wider payment flow.

The infrastructure is built for integration into partner products, including receiving-contract instructions bound to a transaction before settlement. MIST reports a roughly one-second privacy-check benchmark on an iPhone and a current cost benchmark of about five cents per product transfer, with a target below two cents.
