MAP Mar Menor is the public initiative behind Spain’s Priority Action Framework for the Recovery of the Mar Menor, designed by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO). It responds to the pressures on this coastal saltwater lagoon, whose ecological condition has been affected by intensive human activity across its catchment. With implementation planned through 2026, the framework brings together ten lines of action focused on tackling problems at their source, restoring natural processes, and rehabilitating and renaturalising the most affected areas. Where appropriate, it applies nature-based solutions informed by scientific knowledge.

The MAP Mar Menor website provides information and resources for understanding the programme and tracking its progress. Visitors can explore updates on measures, a decision-support tool integrating data and visualisation, a map viewer with detailed information about the Campo de Cartagena, and a catalogue of scientific publications and technical reports. The site also presents indicators for assessing recovery of the lagoon’s socio-ecological system, alongside news and information intended to support public awareness and involvement.
