MitoTAG is a pioneering biotech company that specializes in Mitochondria Targeted Antioxidants. Our mission is to protect our cellular energy sources, known as mitochondria, from various sources of damage, including oxidative stress. We have developed innovative targeting systems that deliver antioxidants and other bioactive molecules directly to mitochondria, offering up to 5000 times greater accumulation when compared to traditional antioxidants.

This ensures a more powerful and specific antioxidant action, effectively preventing and minimizing the negative effects of oxidative stress on our bodies. As a Portuguese startup, we are proud to have emerged as a spin-off of the renowned University of Porto and the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology at the University of Coimbra. With a fully equipped laboratory facility in Biocant Park, an experienced team of 6 full-time employees, and our dedication to cutting-edge research, Mitotag is at the forefront of mitochondrial protection.

Our expertise lies in medicinal chemistry, allowing us to design new molecules with specific targeting and delivery to mitochondria while maintaining their powerful antioxidant properties. We also possess in-depth knowledge of mitochondrial toxicology and oxidative stress pathophysiology, enabling us to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of our candidates. At MitoTAG, we are constantly exploring new avenues to enhance mitochondrial function across various applications and disease contexts.

Currently, our main focus is on the development of novel mitochondria-targeted dietary antioxidants. However, our platform technology has the potential for diverse applications, including anti-aging cosmetics, treatments for liver and neurodegenerative diseases, and even anti-aging food supplements for pets.
