Mixed Reality Lab

The Mixed Reality Lab (MXR) is a research center that combines technology, art, and creativity to explore the possibilities of interactive new media technologies. Based initially in NUS Singapore and then in Keio University Japan, MXR is currently located in City University London. The Lab aims to create a world center of excellence for interactive media and entertainment technology while providing a multi-disciplinary learning environment for students.

MXR also focuses on modifying creative media technology to promote economic development and open new doors for creativity. MXR defines entertainment media as digital technology-dependent products and services, including movies, TV, computer animation, music, wireless and broadband services, electronic toys, video games, and location-based entertainment. The Lab has produced technological advancements with applications in interactive human-computer systems and has spun off companies such as Real Space, Brooklyn-Media, and MXR Corporation.

Recognized for its work, MXR has received both local and international awards, including the Nokia Ubimedia MindTrek Award in 2008 and the Young Global Leader 2008 from the World Economic Forum. The Lab continues to explore creatively new media art works and develop human technology interfaces that are intuitive and easy to use.
