MLL Consulting LLC

MLL Consulting LLC provides historical research and consultation, with a particular focus on Native American issues, ethnohistory, and federal Indian law and policy. Its services include targeted document searches and retrieval, oral history research, tribal ancestry tracing, expert analysis, written reports, and testimony for litigation, legislative hearings, and administrative appeals. The firm works with tribal governments and communities, law firms, universities, and private clients, drawing on research in the National Archives and regional and local repositories across the United States.

President Dr. Michael L. Lawson brings more than 40 years of experience, including service as a historian with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Smithsonian Institution, and National Park Service. His research has supported congressional legislation establishing recovery trust funds for five Sioux Tribes, and he has assisted the Shinnecock Nation and Pamunkey Indian Tribe in gaining federal acknowledgment. MLL Consulting coordinates an interdisciplinary network of historians, anthropologists, and other specialists to deliver carefully documented, objective research and reports.
