About Monarch Larva Monitoring Project
The Monarch Larva Monitoring Project (MLMP) is a collaborative initiative between the Monarch Joint Venture and the University of Wisconsin–Madison Arboretum, dedicated to understanding and conserving monarch butterfly populations across North America. Our mission is to track the distribution and abundance of breeding monarchs through citizen science, empowering volunteers to actively engage in data collection and monitoring efforts that contribute to vital conservation knowledge.
Participants in the MLMP are equipped with monitoring kits and comprehensive training, enabling them to observe monarch eggs and larvae, as well as milkweed habitats. Through hands-on experience and ongoing education, volunteers gain insights into monarch biology and conservation practices, fostering a deeper appreciation for the natural environment.
The project encourages individuals and groups to monitor monarch activity, making it an excellent opportunity for families, friends, and nature enthusiasts to learn together. By joining the MLMP, you can make a tangible impact on monarch conservation and inspire others to take part in this important mission. Join us today and help preserve these iconic butterflies for future generations!
