About M’Lop Tapang
M'Lop Tapang is a remarkable organization dedicated to supporting vulnerable children, youth, their families, and communities. The name M'Lop signifies shade or protection in the Khmer language, while the Tapang tree symbolizes refuge from the elements. Established in 2003 by a group of both local residents and foreigners, the organization initially aimed to provide shelter and sustenance for six children who were exposed to exploitation, sleeping under a large Tapang tree on the beach.
Over time, M'Lop Tapang has evolved into a comprehensive program with a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to aiding at-risk children. By employing specialized teams working collaboratively, M'Lop Tapang ensures individualized assessments and immediate and sustainable responses to the unique needs of each child and family.
