About Mmegi
Mmegi is the premier independent source for breaking news, current affairs, politics, business, sports, analysis, and entertainment news in Botswana. Founded in 1968 by Patrick Van Rensburg, Mmegi originally started as a project at Swaneng Hill Secondary School in Serowe. After a hiatus, it was relaunched in 1984 under the Foundation for Education with Production (FEP) as a not-for-profit organization.
Over the years, Mmegi has grown to become a trusted news outlet, offering comprehensive coverage of both local and international news. Despite facing challenges with funding, Mmegi has persevered and made significant contributions to the media landscape in Botswana. In 1992, Mmegi transformed into Dikgang Publishing Company, inviting investors while retaining majority shareholding.
The editorial team at Mmegi maintains full independence in their reporting. Mmegi continued to evolve with the changing media landscape. It became a daily publication in 2003 and introduced its website, mmegi.
bw. However, responding to the rise of digital media, Mmegi transitioned back to a weekly publication in 2018. With a dedicated and talented management team, including the Managing Director Titus Mbuya and various editors, Mmegi remains committed to delivering accurate and engaging news to its readers.
As the landscape of journalism continues to evolve, Mmegi is poised to adapt and continue providing reliable news coverage to the people of Botswana
