Meeuwen Makrelen Loop is an annual beach-running event in Scheveningen, bringing together running enthusiasts and people who enjoy good food. Created by a group of friends known as “De Meeuwen,” the event aims to offer a welcoming, informal atmosphere rather than the usual race-day medal. Its distinctive reward is a freshly steamed mackerel, accompanied by hearty pea soup and crispy lekkerbek, a battered fish dish.
The next edition is scheduled for Saturday, 12 December 2026, with registration opening on 17 October at noon Amsterdam time. For €15, participants can take on an approximately 16-kilometre out-and-back route along the beach. The course starts at Scheveningen harbour near Duindorp, heads towards Ter Heijde, and turns back after roughly eight kilometres.
The event also supports Stichting Prinses Máxima Centrum, which raises funds for children with cancer. With its combination of coastal scenery, a sporting challenge, shared food and charitable purpose, Meeuwen Makrelen Loop offers a distinctive community event in Scheveningen.
