Mobility Magnetics is developing MOCA, the Magnetic Overhead Conveyance Apparatus, a patented overhead support and movement system for healthcare, warehousing, and manufacturing applications. Designed as an alternative to conventional track-based or floor-based conveyance, MOCA enables supported users and objects to move freely in multiple directions across equipped spaces. The system uses magnetic carriers that couple to modular structural ceiling panels and glide across their surfaces on precision non-metallic balls.
It can support movement over beds, in bathrooms, along pathways between rooms, or throughout a facility, while allowing multiple users to operate in the same space. Mobility Magnetics says the system requires no power for permanent support and can be positioned freely or fixed in place. Its potential applications include patient mobility, caregiver support, fall protection, and industrial conveyance, with powered lift, travel, counterbalance, and navigation also possible.
The company reports independent testing of ceiling panels and carrier components, including load testing up to 2,600 pounds. Mobility Magnetics is seeking collaborators to advance manufacturing and marketing development of MOCA-related products
