The Museum of Children's Art (MOCHA) was founded in 1988 with a commitment to bring arts education programs to schools and communities in the East Bay area. With a presence in vulnerable communities, public and private schools, libraries, and their Oakland-based studios and gallery, MOCHA collaborates with artists, educators, parents, and students to harness the power of art as a learning tool. Their mission is to enhance the social, emotional, and cultural development of young people through arts education.
Having impacted the lives of nearly a million children with hands-on art learning experiences, MOCHA recognizes the transformative impact of art on children's creative thinking, cognitive development, and sense of belonging. In response to the rising rates of violence affecting children, MOCHA has expanded its mission to include interventions and prevention through art education resources. They believe that art can play a critical role in mending communities by creating opportunities for self-expression, culture and community-building, and the centering of youth voices.
