Axels Modellmanufaktur, run by model maker Axel Schmidt, creates detailed custom models for clients seeking a personal or historically meaningful miniature. The workshop builds models from scratch, including the research needed for a new project, and also works from kits. Existing models can be modified to a customer’s specifications or repaired.

The projects shown span a range of scales and include ships, boats, submarines and cars. Many are radio-controlled and go beyond basic movement with features such as lighting, sound and moving figures. Schmidt has been an enthusiastic model maker since childhood and brings an interest in the history of technology to his work, including its sometimes unusual designs.

This combination informs the distinctive character of his functional models. Customers may commission a model inspired by a former classic car, a favorite vessel or a familiar tram, among other subjects. Axels Modellmanufaktur presents completed projects and invites people interested in a bespoke build, conversion or repair to get in touch to discuss their needs
