Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (MHHS) is the oldest and largest animal protection organization in New York's Capital Region. Established in 1887, MHHS is dedicated to transforming the lives of animals and people through compassionate partnerships and protection. They provide shelter and care for stray, abused, and unwanted animals, and offer a wide range of services for animals and their caregivers.

MHHS boasts an impressive 93. 3% live release rate in 2022, thanks to programs like low-cost spay/neuter and wellness services, vaccination and microchip clinics, stray housing for municipalities, dog training, a pet food pantry, and humane education programming for all ages. To ensure the well-being of animals, MHHS relies on a dedicated staff and a team of over 21,000 volunteers who contribute their time and effort.

These volunteers provide essential support in maintaining the health and well-being of the animals, fundraising, and outreach. MHHS is a not-for-profit organization that depends primarily on private donations. They do not receive ongoing funding from the government or other animal welfare organizations.

The Lisa Mitzen Animal Care Center, which opened in 2017, offers state-of-the-art facilities for optimal animal health, housing, and medical care. In 2022, MHHS achieved remarkable milestones, including 2,333 pets finding loving homes, 770 animals receiving care in foster homes, and over 92,000 meals provided through their Pet Food Pantry. They also reunite stray pets with their families and provide rescue and care for injured animals.
