Mohinani Group

Mohinani Group’s SARA rPET project tackles plastic packaging waste in Ghana and Nigeria by building a more effective collection and recycling system. Through franchise collection centers and company-owned facilities, the initiative gathers PET waste and transforms it into recycled materials, including high-grade flakes and food-grade, bottle-to-bottle pellets for making new bottles. The group has installed advanced Starlinger recycling lines at plants in both countries; its Ghana facility is described as the country’s first bottle-to-bottle recycling plant.

The project also supports waste pickers and collection partners with tools, resources, and training, while promoting waste separation and public awareness. Mohinani Group works with government authorities on sustainable waste management policies and emphasizes fair employment, women’s participation, and improved wages. Its production process uses optical sorting, traceability systems, and other technologies to support product quality and transparency. By expanding collection capacity and converting used PET into materials for new packaging, the RPET project aims to strengthen recycling markets and advance a circular economy in Africa.
