MOI Digital is the online home of “A Publishing and Communications History of the Ministry of Information, 1939–46,” a research project examining British government communication during the Second World War. Funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council between 2014 and 2017, the project was undertaken by the Institute of English Studies in collaboration with the Department of Digital Humanities at King’s College London.
The website presents the project’s research, evidence and scholarly outputs, exploring how the Ministry of Information communicated with audiences in Britain and abroad. Established at the outbreak of war, the Ministry issued public information and propaganda, censored material with military value, and used a wide range of channels, including pamphlets, posters, books, magazines, meetings, exhibitions, films and radio broadcasts.
MOI Digital offers visitors project information, team details, directories, papers, reports and a regularly updated blog. It also shares related publications and research findings, with plans to expand its collection of primary evidence and links to further scholarly work.
