The Mouse Oral Microbiome Database (MOMD) is a curated online scientific resource supporting mouse-based research in oral microbiology. It brings together bacterial culture data, 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing, and whole-genome sequencing to document mouse oral microbes. Its taxonomy draws on full-length 16S rRNA sequences from cultured isolates and draft genomes from representative taxa, with samples sourced from laboratory mice, wild house mice (Mus musculus domesticus), and wood mice (Apodemus sylvaticus).

The database currently covers 205 Mouse Oral Taxa across eight phyla. MOMD indicates that oral bacterial diversity in mice is generally low and varies with the animals’ source, with distinct microbiomes among mice from different environments and laboratories. Researchers can browse, search, and download taxonomy, genome annotations, and sequence data.
