Protégeons Moncaut is a community-led environmental initiative focused on defending the Moncaut and Pédéhourat valley area near Louvie-Juzon in the Ossau Valley, France. The site presents the landscape, its natural heritage and the reasons for protecting it, including its wetlands, streams, distinctive geology and rich biodiversity. Drawing on observations and information from sources such as the IGN, PATRINAT and regional biodiversity inventories, it reports more than 527 recorded species, including rare and protected plants and animals.
The initiative highlights Moncaut’s recognition within a ZNIEFF natural area and its relationship to Natura 2000 protection, while raising concerns about the threat of industrial aggregate extraction.
