Born and raised in Colorado, New Mexico, and Montana, Hergert's artistic talent flourished from a young age. He studied art and graphic design at MSU while working at a local bronze foundry, and his talent and dedication led him to work with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, where he was involved in creating interpretative centers at state parks.

Eventually, Hergert took the leap and pursued photography full-time, never looking back. His work has garnered international recognition and can be found in galleries, businesses, and private collections worldwide. In addition to his photography, Hergert has also published several acclaimed coffee table books, including Montana Panoramic Volume I: 1997-2007 and Montana: Skiing the Last Best Place.
