About Monticello Wine Trail
The Monticello Wine Trail is a vibrant association of wineries, all located within 25 miles of Charlottesville, dedicated to producing nationally and internationally acclaimed wines. Inspired by Thomas Jefferson's vision for American wine, the AVA boundaries encompass the historical significance of Monticello, Jefferson's mountaintop home. While Jefferson's dream of producing quality wine remained unfulfilled during his lifetime, subsequent efforts saw the emergence of the Norton grape, which thrived in Virginia and played a pivotal role in the region's winemaking history.
Today, member wineries on the Monticello Wine Trail pay homage to Jefferson's legacy by crafting exceptional wines that consistently impress in competitions.
