Morehead City Open

Morehead City Open is a king mackerel fishing tournament based in Morehead City, North Carolina. The event brings together fishing teams and anglers for competition, with information available on schedules, rules, registration, payouts, participants, results, and tournament updates. For the 2026 tournament, 75 boats are guaranteed entry when their deposits are received by the deadline. Open places are offered to boats on the waiting list in order, and new teams have until May 15 to submit a $2,000 deposit.

The tournament’s mission is to support king mackerel fishing and anglers, connect with residents and businesses in the county, and contribute to charitable organizations serving people in need. Its featured charitable partner is Child’s Wish of the United Special Sportsman Alliance. Each August in Southport, North Carolina, the organization pairs fishermen with physically handicapped and terminally ill children for a day on the water. The Morehead City Open also runs alongside the Bone Suckin’ Sauce King of the Cape Open KMT, allowing participants to fish both tournaments with one weigh-in.
