About More Homes
The Coalition for More Homes is a dynamic and diverse group of individuals and organizations committed to creating positive change in Auckland. With a focus on enabling More Homes in the Right Places and ensuring Density Done Well, they aim to improve housing quality, expand housing choices, and cultivate livable communities that support the residents of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland now and in the future. The coalition originated in 2016, urging the Auckland Council to pass the Auckland Unitary Plan.
Since then, it has been reignited in 2021 to advocate for the implementation of the National Policy Statement on Urban Development (NPS-UD) and the Medium Density Residential Standards (MDRS). These legislative changes present a significant opportunity to increase the supply of homes in Auckland, particularly in close proximity to local centers and transportation hubs, offering enhanced access to amenities and employment opportunities. As a non-partisan group, the Coalition for More Homes brings together community housing providers, advocacy and special interest groups, trade unions, think tanks, consultants, and private developers, spanning the political spectrum.
