About Scouting America
Mountaineer Area Council is a registered nonprofit council of Scouting America, serving more than 2,500 young people across 22 counties in northern West Virginia and eastern Ohio. Its programs help children and teens build leadership, citizenship, resilience, and practical life skills through engaging activities and outdoor experiences. Families can explore Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Exploring, as well as the Order of the Arrow and the Fort Steuben Alumni Association.
The council offers camping opportunities, including Cub Scout and Scouts BSA resident camps at Camp Mountaineer, Fort Steuben Scout Reservation, and Sandscrest Scout Reservation. Additional resources include campership applications, National Youth Leadership Training, unit fundraisers, and events connected with national and international Scout jamborees. The organization also provides program resources, district support, committee contacts, staff information, and Scout shops.
With more than a century of Scouting’s promise behind its work, Mountaineer Area Council aims to strengthen communities and prepare young people for life through character, leadership, service, and shared adventure.
