Mount Prospect Cemetery is a historic cemetery in Neptune City, New Jersey, serving the community since the 1800s. Founded in 1881 by Willisford Dey, the 35-acre grounds sit on a hill just off Heck Avenue in Monmouth County. The cemetery is the resting place of members of the Sand Hill tribe, veterans, victims of the Morro Castle disaster, and Neptune’s founding mothers and fathers. Its most prominent landmark is a 75-foot monument erected in 1897 by Henry M. Bennett in memory of his wife, Frances.
Under the direction of President Louis Cicalese, Mount Prospect Cemetery is planning improvements and the creation of new burial sections. The cemetery provides burial grounds and welcomes visitors to explore its historic setting. Its grounds are open daily from sunrise to sunset, and visitors can contact the office with questions, concerns, or to arrange a tour. The office is open Monday through Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mount Prospect Cemetery is located at 2600 Heck Avenue, Neptune City, New Jersey.
