About Mozilla Data Collective
Mozilla Data Collective is a mission-locked British company incubated by the Mozilla Foundation and backed by the not-for-profit Mozilla.org. It is building a multilingual, multicultural and multimodal AI ecosystem that puts people, communities and fair value exchange at its centre. The platform helps organisations, communities and individuals share datasets while retaining ownership and control over access, licensing and use.
Data contributors can upload datasets, set their own terms and choose whether to make data openly licensed, community-governed or compensated. When contributors charge for access, revenue from downloads goes back to the people who made the dataset possible; the company says uploaders retain 100% of revenue. For researchers, developers and other data users, the platform offers a catalogue of datasets with clear provenance and licensing, supporting informed discovery and responsible use.
Mozilla Data Collective serves a broad range of participants, from technology startups to libraries, archives and global nonprofits. Its services include dataset sharing and discovery, compensated dataset access, an API, and community resources such as FAQs, participation guidelines, news, documentation and data and model competitions.
