About MPAtlas
The Marine Protection Atlas (MPAtlas.org) created by the Marine Conservation Institute is a vital tool that effectively communicates global marine protection levels. It offers a comprehensive database to identify, track, and advocate for fully and highly protected marine areas. Using a science-based framework developed by The MPA Guide, MPAtlas assesses the Stage of Establishment and Level of Protection of marine protected areas, focusing on their conservation outcomes. Currently, only 2.9% of the ocean is fully or highly protected according to The MPA Guide. However, there is a growing need for more meaningful protection as highlighted by recent analysis showing slow implementation and high impact activities within some MPAs.
With a dedication to enhancing marine conservation worldwide, The Marine Protection Atlas continues to evolve its assessment database to support global efforts in achieving effective marine protection. Start exploring the Atlas now to delve into the world of marine conservation.
