About Mauritius Research and Innovation Council
The Mauritius Research and Innovation Council (MRIC) is a cutting-edge brand dedicated to research and innovation in Mauritius. They offer a wide range of products and services aimed at advancing scientific knowledge and technological progress. One of their notable achievements is the successful launch of MIR-SAT1, the first Mauritian Nano Satellite, into orbit.
Through the KiboCUBE Programme, MRIC collaborated with JAXA to develop this groundbreaking satellite, which has opened up new opportunities for space technology in Mauritius. The primary objectives of the MIR-SAT1 project are to verify the performance of onboard subsystems and collect images of Mauritius and its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Additionally, the satellite enables experimental communication with other regional islands, which is particularly useful for emergency purposes such as cyclones and tsunamis.
MRIC also offers resources for learning about space technology, including nanosatellites, CubeSats, and satellite technology in general. Radio amateurs can explore the use of radio frequency spectrum for non-commercial message exchange. Telemetry services are also available for in situ data collection and transmission.
With a strong commitment to research and innovation, MRIC is driving advancements in Mauritius and beyond
