Institutet för mänskliga rättigheter, an independent national mechanism, aims to promote the protection of human rights in Sweden. Committed to ensuring the rights of individuals with disabilities, the institute fulfills its responsibilities under the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. With a mission to advance the safeguarding of human rights in Sweden, Institutet för mänskliga rättigheter annually submits a comprehensive report to the government, providing insights and observations on the human rights landscape.

In addition, the institute organizes conferences, such as Mänskliga rättigheter i högre utbildning, examining the intersection of research-based knowledge and training in higher education. It also hosts meetings with the disability rights movement, where thoughts and proposals are shared for the institute's report to the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Led by Professor Pål Wrange, an esteemed expert in international law, the institute actively responds to various legislative proposals that impact human rights, advocating for their alignment with fundamental human rights principles.
