About Mr. Trash Wheel
The Trash Wheel family, led by the iconic Mr. Trash Wheel, consists of four innovative, sustainably powered trash interceptors operating in Baltimore Harbor. Since its debut in 2014, Mr. Trash Wheel has become a symbol of Baltimore’s commitment to environmental preservation, effectively removing over 500 tons of debris annually and significantly reducing pollution entering the Chesapeake Bay. Designed by environmental scientist John Kellett and operated by Clearwater Mills LLC, these semi-autonomous machines engage the community with their playful googly eyes, turning them into social media icons and community landmarks.
Supported by the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore, a non-profit organization focused on promoting and enhancing the waterfront district, the Trash Wheel family not only tackles waterfront cleanliness but also serves as a foundation for educational initiatives and advocacy toward better waste management practices. Through sponsorship opportunities, community events, and volunteer work, the organization fosters a collaborative spirit in maintaining healthy waterways and equitable public spaces for all to enjoy.
