In 2012, MSD launched Project Clear, an ambitious initiative aimed at investing billions of dollars to address regulatory compliance, system improvements, community rainscaping, and maintenance and repairs. Serving approximately 1. 3 million people over 520 square miles and five major watersheds, MSD Project Clear is committed to enhancing water resources and ensuring the health and well-being of the region.

Their extensive infrastructure includes over 9,600 miles of collection and trunk sewers and force mains, accommodating wastewater, stormwater, and combined sewer systems. In addition, MSD owns and maintains 279 pumping stations and operates seven wastewater treatment facilities, treating over 350 million gallons of wastewater per day.
