Doctors Without Borders

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), known in English as Doctors Without Borders, is an independent international medical humanitarian organisation. MSF New Zealand connects supporters in New Zealand with the organisation’s work providing medical care to people facing violence, neglect, natural disasters, epidemics and other health emergencies. Its teams work in more than 70 countries, responding to crises and treating people affected by armed conflict, disease outbreaks, healthcare exclusion and disasters.

MSF’s assistance is guided by independence, neutrality and impartiality. It aims to reach people according to medical need, without discrimination based on ethnicity, religion or political affiliation, and provides care free of charge. The organisation says it is funded primarily by individual donors, helping it act independently and respond rapidly.

Through its New Zealand presence, MSF offers ways to support this work, including one-off and ongoing giving, gifts in wills, philanthropy, fundraising and emergency donations. It also provides information about its operations and current humanitarian issues, and opportunities to work or volunteer, including overseas assignments and office roles.
