Mt Cheeseman is a friendly ski area in Canterbury, New Zealand, about a 90-minute drive from Christchurch. Open to skiers and snowboarders, it offers an approachable mountain experience with two T-bar lifts, a learners’ rope tow and a dedicated beginner area. The terrain includes groomed intermediate runs and steeper off-piste options for advanced skiers. Visitors can drop off gear near the Day Lodge and lifts, making access straightforward.
On the mountain, the Day Lodge has a licensed café, barista coffee and a sunny deck. Mt Cheeseman also provides ski-in, ski-out stays at catered Snowline Lodge, as well as backpacker accommodation at Forest Lodge, which is open year-round. Its ski holiday packages combine accommodation, lift passes, meals and, for selected packages, group lessons. The area also offers snow-school lessons, lift passes, season passes and equipment rentals.
Beyond winter skiing, visitors can explore walking tracks and alpine tramping routes, or use the lodges and venue facilities for weddings, school camps, celebrations, retreats and group events.
