Montana Conservation Elders (MCE) is an independent nonprofit organization of Montana citizens with longstanding experience in nature conservation. Its members work to protect the state’s wilderness, public lands and waters, clean rivers, wildlife, and other natural resources for future generations. Drawing on Montana’s conservation history and their own experience, they share the stories and lessons of past conservation efforts to encourage continued public stewardship and activism.
A central focus is conservation education for youth and teens. Through youth outreach, the NextGen curriculum, events, and a speakers bureau, MCE aims to inspire young people to become informed, active conservation leaders. The organization also promotes awareness of responsible land stewardship and Montana’s wild places through campaigns, educational content, and collaborations with other groups.
MCE has participated in environmental cleanups, habitat restoration, and conservation initiatives, reporting that it has helped clean up 25 rivers and launch 24 campaigns. It offers opportunities to join its community, volunteer, attend events, and follow its work through newsletters and annual reports.
