Mafutaga Tupulaga Tokelau i Aukilani (MTTA) is Auckland’s Tokelauan youth organisation and host of the Tokelau Easter Festival (TEF), a biennial celebration bringing together Tokelauan communities from Aotearoa New Zealand, Australia, Hawai‘i, and Tokelau. Founded in 1976, the festival has grown from a community sports day into a major gathering focused on sport, culture, faith, and education. The 2026 event marks its 50th anniversary and takes place from April 3 to 6 at Bruce Pulman Park in Takanini, Auckland, under the theme “Raising Leaders, Rooted in Culture.
” Festival activities include Po Fatele performances, traditional dance, cultural showcases, and competitions in netball, tag rugby, basketball, volleyball, rugby league, and kilikiti. The programme also features youth speeches, church services, leadership and wellbeing workshops, children’s activities, and an annual general meeting. MTTA offers an opportunity for families and communities to reconnect, celebrate Tokelauan heritage, and build relationships across generations.
