About Muirfield
The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers is a historic golf club based at Muirfield in Gullane, East Lothian, Scotland. Its earliest written records date to 1744, when its predecessors played at Leith Links, followed by a period at Musselburgh. The Club moved to Muirfield in 1891, where it continues to welcome Members, their guests and visiting golfers from the UK and abroad.
Muirfield’s course was created by Old Tom Morris in 1891 and redesigned by Harry Colt in 1925, using the original grounds and an additional 50 acres acquired by the Club. The venue has hosted major golf events, including 16 Open Championships, 11 Amateur Championships, the Ryder, Walker and Curtis Cups, and other national and international tournaments. Most recently, it hosted the AIG Women’s Open in August 2022.
Visitors can book rounds on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the year, with diary openings and green-fee information published by the Club. Muirfield also shares material about its history, heritage, traditions and course, reflecting its longstanding place in golf.
