The Museo d’Arte e Scienza (MAS) is a museum in Milan, located in the nineteenth-century Palazzo Bonacossa near Sforza Castle. Its collections are associated with the Matthaes family, whose art holdings began to be acquired in 1906 by Gottfried Matthaes, founder of the museum. MAS combines exhibitions, education and scientific research, with a distinctive focus on recognizing authenticity in art and antiques.
Its permanent displays include Buddhist art from East Asia, African ethnographic art, and two educational exhibitions devoted to Leonardo da Vinci, his Milanese period and his treatise on painting. The museum’s scientific laboratory has spent more than twenty years refining existing methods and developing new ones to assess the authenticity of artworks and antiques. MAS also offers educational programs for schools and families, art-history courses, cultural activities, talks and temporary exhibitions.
Visitors can explore the collections, attend events and learn through hands-on experiences. The museum also makes its exhibition spaces available for events, bringing together art, science and public engagement in a distinctive cultural destination
