MSCHF is an art and creative collective known for turning familiar objects, ideas, and cultural systems into unconventional artworks. Its Museum of Forgeries: Picasso Edition centers on “Possibly Real Copy Of ‘Poisson’ by Pablo Picasso,” a 2024 series of 250 identical graphite-on-wood fish sculptures. One is an original Picasso, valued at $50,000, while the other 249 are exact MSCHF-made forgeries.
The pieces were mixed together, and records identifying the original were destroyed, leaving each work’s authenticity uncertain. Through this project, MSCHF examines how provenance, scarcity, and authenticity shape the value of art. Rather than treating the copies as simple reproductions, the collective presents the copying and sale of the edition as a single collaborative artwork, with buyers becoming participants in its central question.
The series was shown at Perrotin Gallery in Los Angeles as part of MSCHF’s Art 2 exhibition. The available text describes this art edition and exhibition, but does not establish a broader range of products or services
