About Museum of Miami
The Museum of Miami, a distinguished Smithsonian Affiliate situated in downtown Miami, is dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich narratives of Miami’s diverse communities. Established in 1940 and originally known as the Historical Association of Southern Florida, the museum has evolved into one of the largest regional history organizations in the Southeastern United States.
With a collection exceeding 40,000 artifacts, the museum spans from prehistoric finds to modern Afro-Cuban artifacts. It houses over 2 million historical images within its Archives and Research Center, making it a vital resource for understanding South Florida’s history. The museum’s core exhibition, Tropical Dreams: A People’s History of South Florida, encompasses 10,000 years of history and is complemented by a dynamic schedule of temporary exhibitions that address contemporary issues.
