About Museum of Youth Culture
The Museum of Youth Culture is an emerging brand that celebrates the styles, sounds, and social movements created by young people over the past 100 years. As a pop-up museum located at 154 Shaftesbury Avenue, our mission is to champion the influence of youth on modern society. We are formed from the archives of YOUTH CLUB, a non-profit Heritage Lottery & Arts Council Funded collection, which includes photographs, ephemera, objects, and oral histories that showcase our shared youth culture history.
From the post-war Bicycle racers in 1940s London to the Acid House ravers in 1980s Northern England, the Museum of Youth Culture empowers the extraordinary stories of growing up in Britain. We have received thousands of submissions from the public through our successful online campaign called 'Grown Up in Britain,' inviting individuals to share their own photographs and challenge traditional stereotypes about young people. Our offerings go beyond exhibitions and collections.
At the heart of the Museum is a commitment to youth engagement, offering skills training, talks, and workshops to inspire future generations through the power of youth culture. We also collaborate with writers and academics from The Subcultures Network to make youth culture history accessible to everyone. Join us on this exciting journey as we bring the world's most comprehensive collection of youth culture content to life.
