About Museumshafen Oevelgönne
Museumshafen Oevelgönne is a historic ship harbor and maritime heritage organization on the Elbe in Hamburg. Founded in 1976, it preserves a distinctive fleet of former working vessels, including sailing ships, steamships and historic motor ships. Maintained and operated largely through the commitment of members and volunteers, the vessels bring Hamburg’s port and seafaring history to life rather than sitting behind museum barriers.
Visitors can explore the harbor independently, join a guided tour or use a free audio guide covering 19 locations. Open Ship events invite guests aboard to discover each vessel’s history, technology and life at sea. The organization also offers trips on historic ships, with volunteer crews sharing their knowledge as guests experience the Elbe from the water. Revenue from these trips supports the preservation and operation of the fleet.
Museumshafen Oevelgönne welcomes people to become members, volunteer, participate in events or donate. Its harbor is located at the Neumühlen ferry landing and is accessible by ferry and bus.
