Musikcentrum Öst is a non-profit membership organisation founded in 1970, rooted in the belief that every musician deserves the right to a sustainable, supported career. We work across genres and generations to strengthen the conditions for freelance musicians in Sweden — and beyond. Our work is built on three pillars: 1.Artist Representation: We act as a non-commercial agency, promoting and booking live music on the artists’ own terms. From jazz clubs to schools, libraries to international festivals, we match musicians with presenters and guide each collaboration with care. 2.Career Support: We provide tools, training and mentoring for freelance musicians to thrive in a complex and changing music industry — always grounded in the realities of artistic practice. 3.Advocacy & Projects: We lead long-term development projects and speak up for the rights of musicians in cultural policy, both nationally and locally. Our work includes children’s music, international collaborations, and research-driven initiatives. Whether you’re a booker, educator, policymaker or fellow artist — Musikcentrum Öst is a partner in building fairer conditions for live music. About Musikcentrum Öst
Musikcentrum Öst (MCÖ) is an esteemed non-profit association composed of professional musicians. With a diverse range of genres and artistic expressions, MCÖ's members and music groups collectively showcase a wealth of talent. The organization operates on three core pillars:
1. As a non-profit artist agency, MCÖ facilitates job opportunities on the artists' terms. Utilizing tools such as their website, MCÖ arranges showcases, participates in trade fairs, both in Sweden and abroad, to enhance visibility of their offerings.
2. MCÖ provides coaching and professional development to members, empowering them in the job market. This includes organizing courses and seminars, as well as offering individual mentorship and career development programs.
3. Music advocacy and shaping music policy are at the forefront of MCÖ's work. They undertake projects that strengthen the independent music scene, championing a free and diverse musical landscape.
MCÖ serves as a unique resource for all types of music organizers and stakeholders. Building long-term relationships, they meticulously guide each organizer towards the optimal choice of musical ensemble, whether for an international festival, jazz society, or even a preschool. One of MCÖ's core activities is creating music for children and young people. In their mission for a more gender-equal society, MCÖ strives for gender balance in all aspects of their work, particularly in genres traditionally dominated by men. Gender representation is also a key consideration in board appointments and personnel recruitments.
At MCÖ, sustainability and structural integrity are paramount. They work closely with Musikcentrum Riks, Musikcentrum Väst, and Musikcentrum Syd, fostering collaboration through projects like Live Music From Sweden and competence development.
