The Max Weber Netzwerk Osteuropa is a dynamic research initiative launched by the Max Weber Stiftung to enhance the study of Eastern European history, especially amidst the current geopolitical challenges such as the Russian war in Ukraine and restrictions on academic freedom in Russia and Belarus. Established in September 2023, the network's initial hub in Tbilissi, Georgia, aims to foster collaboration among researchers and expand its reach through additional offices planned in Vilnius, Lithuania, and Helsinki, Finland, with future facilities anticipated in Ukraine.

By providing a decentralized structure, the network offers a variety of funding formats, events, and publication opportunities to support sustainable research in Eastern European studies. It serves as a vital platform for historians and scholars to connect and collaborate in a turbulent environment, adapting to the changing landscape of academic research and ensuring that the rich history of the region continues to be explored and understood. The Max Weber Netzwerk Osteuropa is committed to promoting international scholarly dialogue and advancing research methodologies in the Social Sciences and Humanities.
