About My Ma se Kombuis
My Ma se Kombuis, meaning “My Mum’s Kitchen,” is a South African recipe and cooking project created as a loving tribute to Ansie by her son, Francois Hudson-Roux. It brings together more than 220 authentic family recipes, translated from Ansie’s handwritten Afrikaans notes into a collection for everyone to enjoy. The website offers recipes free of charge, with no advertising or paywall, and organizes them into 11 chapters covering home-cooking favourites such as bobotie, malva pudding, melktert, vetkoek, curries, soups, breads, rusks and braai dishes. Visitors can also find featured recipes, cooking tips, collections and stories from Ansie’s kitchen.
For those who want a keepsake, My Ma se Kombuis offers a printed cookbook and Kindle editions through regional Amazon stores. The book includes space for readers to write their own notes. The site also provides a worldwide directory of South African food shops, helping people find familiar ingredients abroad. All book royalties and affiliate profits are donated to The Stroke Association in Ansie’s memory, connecting family recipes with a charitable purpose.
