My Spark Scholarship is a Denver Public Schools Foundation program that helps middle school students access afterschool and enrichment activities. Originally created by the City and County of Denver, Mile High United Way, and Gary Community Ventures, the initiative launched as a pilot in 2023. The Foundation officially acquired the program in summer 2025 and plans to sustain and expand it for DPS students and families.
Eligible families can receive $1,000 per student on a restricted My Spark Scholarship Card and choose participating activities that suit their child’s interests. Options include arts, sports, STEM, tutoring, and dance, with more than 200 local enrichment providers available. Families can opt in to the scholarship lottery when completing their school enrollment form, then browse providers and select an activity.
The program aims to reduce financial barriers, support youth confidence and well-being, and strengthen family and community connections. Reported benefits include increased physical activity, less screen time, stronger friendships, and greater family engagement.
