NABU 🦤

NABU Schenefeld/Mittelholstein is a local group of the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union of Germany (NABU), working in northern Steinburg district, Schleswig-Holstein. Since 1981, it has supported the protection of nature and the essential resources on which people, animals and plants depend. Its work includes species conservation, bat protection, landscape management and environmental education, alongside projects such as maintaining hedgerows and caring for local natural areas. The group is planning an orchard meadow on its Triangel site north of Looft and also highlights the ecological value of Schleswig-Holstein’s traditional hedgerows, or Knicks.

The organization invites residents to take part by becoming members, volunteering or donating. Its monthly meetings are open to members, friends and anyone interested in local conservation, offering a chance to learn about projects and exchange ideas. Families and young people can connect with nature through the Naturscouts children’s group. The group also shares practical resources and guidance, including nest-box building instructions and information about wildlife care and rescue stations.
