About NACTA
The National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) is Pakistan’s national body for coordinating efforts to counter terrorism and extremism. Established in 2008 as an administrative entity under the Ministry of Interior, it works with government institutions and other stakeholders at national and international levels. Its mission is to lead, coordinate, and synchronize these efforts, supporting its vision of a peaceful and secure Pakistan.
NACTA’s work spans counter-terrorism, counter-financing of terrorism, preventing violent extremism, intelligence, research, and monitoring. It also supports reforms related to madaris and the criminal justice system, and monitors implementation of the National Action Plan. The authority develops and shares policies, strategies, reports, and research, including publications through the Pakistan Journal of Terrorism Research and its research repository. Its public resources include information on proscribed persons and organizations, UNSC sanctions, policy documents, and announcements.
NACTA also undertakes communication and outreach initiatives, including peace festivals, educational activities, and community engagement.
