Aerial Firefighting is responsible for the suppression of bushfires in Australia, acting on the Governments of each of the Australian States and Territories. They utilize aircraft for fire suppression and other fire management activities where it is safe, efficient, and cost-effective. The fleet consists of a wide range of fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft, each selected based on their suitability for individual tasks and cost-effectiveness.
These aircraft are used for tasks such as firebombing, rapid delivery of firefighters to remote areas, fire detection and reconnaissance, command and control, and aerial ignition. Most of the firefighting aircraft are leased from experienced and qualified Australian commercial aircraft providers. The collaboration and sharing of resources between States and Territories through NAFC arrangements allow for improved performance and cost savings.
Aerial Firefighting aims to ensure the safety of communities and the efficient suppression of bushfires by utilizing a diverse fleet and cooperating with agencies across the country. For more information about the agencies involved in fire in Australia, visit the AFAC website: afac. com.
