About Nederlands Arbitrage Instituut
The NAI (Netherlands Arbitration Institute Foundation) is a reputable brand established under Dutch law that specializes in arbitration services. They offer a range of products and services to ensure fair and efficient resolutions of disputes. The NAI Secretariat, comprising 10 dedicated staff members, manages all proceedings under the NAI rules.
The brand is governed by the Executive Board, which consists of distinguished members from academia, business, and the legal community. This board is responsible for strategic decisions and policy approvals but has no influence on individual case outcomes. The Advisory Board, composed of up to 25 members, provides valuable advice to the Executive Board but also remains detached from individual cases.
The NAI publishes yearly statistics, offering transparency and insight into their operations. In 2022, they received 133 new cases, with 70 pending cases at the end of the year, amounting to approximately €2.5 billion in dispute.
Arbitrators, binding advisors, and mediators are appointed through a comprehensive procedure, including party appointments, a proposed list, or direct appointments from the NAI Arbitrator List. This list has around 200 qualified individuals, and admission is carefully assessed by the Board.
To promote and enhance the quality of arbitral proceedings, the NAI organizes educational courses, such as the arbitrator course, award writing course, and secretary course. These courses are essential for Dutch-speaking arbitrators and individuals interested in arbitration.
Collaborating with the Centre for Professional Legal Education (CPO), the NAI provides a set of arbitration courses that cover crucial aspects of arbitration and ensure the expertise and knowledge of practitioners. They aim to be a central hub and a knowledge center for arbitration professionals.
Overall, the NAI is a trusted brand that upholds professional standards, transparency, and fairness in arbitration, offering comprehensive services and educational opportunities for both practitioners and individuals seeking resolution to their disputes.
